From the archives: Malaysia and Singapore

March 23, 2015

“Malaysia – Truly Asia” is a very matching slogan for this diverse country. The mix of Chinese, Indian and Malay culture reflects in religion (Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists) as well as in food (from Tandoori Chicken to Dim Sum), topped with an undeniable influence of former Western colonialism. Especially Georgetown on the island of Penang has a lot of charm and is a hot spot for foodies. The soft, white sand, some basic accommodation and beautiful reefs make the rustic Perhentian islands to a backpacker’s and diver’s paradise and there’s of course busy KL with its skyscrapers and night markets. And I’ve only been to a few parts of Malaysia… Last but not least, Singapore wins the prize for being the cleanest and most organised nation in Southeast Asia – but once you noticed all the prohibitory signs, you know why! Nevertheless it’s a great city to take a break, if Western efficiency and comfort are missed.

Definitely one of the reasons I love Malaysia, it’s a giant mixing bowl of cultures and food. Truly Asia is perfect description 🙂
