What I really like about NYC is the fact that you can walk a few blocks and feel like being in an entirely different country. The huge Chinese community gathers in different “Chinatowns”, the one in Manhattan being the most famous. But if you want to get away from the tourists, there is another Chinatown in Brooklyn near Sunset Park. You won’t find any tacky souvenir shops or commercialised brands like Starbucks there, but lots of interesting street life, gigantic markets and cheap repairs/massages/spas. The supermarket and food court of Fei Long Market take you straight to a mall which could be also in Shanghai. It’s the perfect spot to grab some real Chinese food and watch people. The streets are just as busy with all kinds of stores and of course, more food. A great way to travel cheap and fast!
