Berlin Pt. 2 – Shopping and architecture

October 24, 2015

Considering the last post, you might think we only headed from restaurants to coffee shops and snack booths during our trip. Well this is certainly kind of true but we didn’t ignore the other attractions of Berlin completely. Although I didn’t buy anything at the Mauerpark flea market, I enjoyed being among a cool bunch of people. I’m not of a big shopper anyway but I don’t mind browsing around. The market is so big that I got a little tired though 😛

Sometimes selling clothes is simple as that, but it looks like people are busy in their phones.

Berlin35Berlin36I’m not a huge Starbucks fan but I bet this cute booth can save a coffee addict’s life.

Berlin36-3We stumbled accidentally into this cool designed mall: Bikini Berlin. My bf totally geeked out on its architecture.

Berlin38It’s right next to the zoo and from the window you can watch monkeys in their outdoor enclosure. What a cool spot to hang out!

Berlin37Berlin39Berlin40Last time I missed the online registration for visiting the glass roof of the Bundestag, the national parliament of Germany. The structure is very interesting and smart, unfortunately the view was a little restricted because of the rain. However don’t forget to book an appointment if you’re planning to visit it.

Berlin41I thought the spiral architecture would look better in b/w 😉

Berlin44-2Berlin42Berlin44-3Berlin45Berlin46The East Side Gallery is another must-see. This one is probably the most famous artwork of the open-air gallery showing Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and East German leader Erich Honecker giving a fraternal kiss. Yes, fraternal – this graffiti isn’t a joke someone made up, it’s based on a real photograph!

Berlin48Berlin49Tempelhof airport is a huge complex in the middle of the city but not operating as an airport anymore. However it’s a place of rich history and monumental architecture. Too bad that we missed the guided tour which is the only way to get a peak inside. Oh well, it’s on my list for my next visit!

That glass roof looks amazing! Not really sure about my favorite place in Berlin, but I really liked the hip, dynamic vibe, which is everywhere. When we were in pilot school, my husband managed to snatch a training flight to Tempelhof right before it closed:)

Wow pilot school – how exciting! You’re right, Berlin feels so hip everywhere 😉

Unfortunately I’m not drinking coffee, so I can’t tell you anything about the flavours 🙁 But Berlin is full of hip coffee and tea shops, so I’m sure you’ll find something 😉

    • Reply sileas October 28, 2015 at 11:45 am

Danke! Schon witzig wie unterschiedlich die Städte wahrgenommen werden 🙂 Wir wollten eigentlich in den Tempelhof hinein, aber haben leider die Führungen verpasst. Das nächste Mal dann 😉
