Wiener Weihnachten – Viennese Christmas

December 24, 2015

(english version below)

First of all, I’d like to wish you a merry Christmas and happy holidays with your loved ones! Although the weather hasn’t feel like winter yet much (hence typical Viennese Christmas weather) it’s impossible to escape the spirit of Christmas here. Before I’m heading towards summer for two weeks, I took the chance to soak in the city in all its festive glory. So if you’re not captured by the Christmas spirit yet – have a look at those photos of Vienna’s most beautiful markets and places. If that doesn’t work, I don’t know what will 😉 Let’s start with the advent market at Karlsplatz!

Xmas15Xmas16Xmas14

Small but beautiful is that market on Wilhelminenberg, boasting a wonderful view over the city.

Xmas9Xmas13Xmas12

The lights in the city centre aren’t very new but they’re still nice to look at.

Xmas8

This walk-through tree inside a mall was pretty bling-bling!

Xmas17

What would be a Christmas market without hot punch and all those sweet and savory treats?

Xmas11

Xmas22

Shame on me I made it the very first time to Belvedere Palace this year. I mean how could I miss such a gorgeous place all over the years?

Xmas3Xmas1Xmas2

Immer was los dort.

Spittelberg – where you’ll find a huge selection of punch, food and creative gifts. Always busy.

Xmas20Xmas19Xmas21

Last but not least my favourite among the countless markets, but not only because it’s almost in front of my doorstep – Schönbrunn Palace!

Xmas23Xmas24Xmas25

Merry Christmas!

Yes, I’m always amazed by how much effort they put into Christmas decoration each year. Thanks so much, I hope you had a great holiday season too and wishing you all the best for 2016!

Usually we eat roast duck and caramelized potatoes Christmas Eve followed by a Danish rice pudding with cherry sauce, but this year, I was in Singapore and had Japanese wagyu bbq instead:)
Vienna looks so beautiful! Poul and I were supposed to go yesterday, but he swapped his flight, so he’ll be flying to Rome instead:/

Mmmm roast duck and caramelized potatoes sounds like a feast! But the wagyu BBQ sounds just a great 🙂 I hope you’ll make it to Vienna soon! Have a great new year!

Merry Christmas Sileas! I hope you had a wonderful day celebrating the tis the seasons with love ones <3
I really need pictures like this! THIS IS CHRISTMAS!!!!!
We had 30C on Winter Solstice and that's a joke for winter. It's rather a warm winter here in Taiwan this year.
Wonder what's the smoke (not sure if it is) on the 7 pic?

Aww thanks so much Tiff! I really can’t complain about this’ year Christmas. Winters in warm countries definitely feel very different. That smoke is actually coming from a waste incineration plant, hehe 😛 Wishing you a very happy new year!

I just saw your post from a while ago, and I loved it! great shots from all the wonderful Christmas markets 🙂 and I’ve never actually been inside a Viennese mall during Christmas (because there are always way too many people 😀 ), I should have done that just to take a look at the beautiful decoration & trees inside. 🙂

    • Reply sileas December 28, 2017 at 9:20 pm

Thank you! I used to not like malls either but here in the US they are actually quite fun 😀 Maybe I become a real mall fan one day?
