#outhere Pt. 1 – Bermuda: Hamilton and Dockyard

May 26, 2016

A gorgeous and one of the most exclusive island escapes is only a 1.5 hour flight away from New York City: The British Overseas territory of Bermuda. It’s where wealth meets casual Caribbean lifestyle, where honeymooners, yacht-owners and rich retirees come and sometimes stay. But it’s also a destination for adventure seekers and beach bums who’ll find some of the most breathtaking stretches of sand on the planet! (see here)

Hamilton is the picturesque capital made of pastel-painted houses, restaurants, bars and cute little boutiques. And in all of Bermuda you’re never far away from a church, many of them with historic significance like the Cathedral of The Most Holy Trinity. After some “city life” you can take a ferry from Hamilton to another historic site, the Dockyard!

The Royal Naval Dockyard – in short the “dockyard” is Bermuda’s only cruise ship terminal and a giant old fort converted into a leisure space with an undeniable British charm (minus the bad weather). Furthermore, it hosts Bermuda’s National Museum that’s worth a peek and gives you fantastic ocean views!

Useful information:

Bermuda has a straightforward bus and ferry system that covers the most popular places but they may not be the most independent option. While conventional rental cars are prohibited to visitors, you can rent small electric cars, scooters or bicycles to explore the island at your own pace (left side traffic!) Taxis are also widely available.

Recommended cafés and eats:

Rock Island Coffee: Quirky little coffee shop in Hamilton.

Frog & Onion Pub: Classic pub with English favourites like Shepherd’s Pie by the Dockyard.

Recommended stay:

Bermuda by far isn’t a budget destination and hotels are really expensive. If you’re looking for a more wallet-friendly option, I can recommend Dawkin’s Manor which provides basic but comfortable rooms and a small pool. The closest beach is just a short walk away. Bookings are only accepted through their own website.

When I saw your blog title, my first thought is “Bermuda triangle?” and the next is “Don’t people die there?!”. Hahaha! But wow, the place looks so surreal. Especially the beach view! I’m intrigued on how much it costs to visit the place. Might do a quick Google while waiting for your next post!

I am fortunate to be one of the lucky ones to live in Bermuda. My husband took a job in Bermuda and I am the lucky one that I am retired here.. but volunteer at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo………. and Bermuda every day leaves me in awww over the beauty of the country.. Everyone should have it on their bucket list…

Oh lucky you! I heard it’s really hard to become a resident… Since I’ve been there I totally agree that it should be every travel list!
