Eat & Drink Impressions Vienna

Summer finds 2016 in Vienna

September 17, 2016
Wien Seestadt

The second half of September has begun and if we like it or not, it’s time to say farewell to this year’s summer. I found myself in a good balance between travel and work and also I didn’t miss out quality time in my beautiful home city. I already wrote excessively about summers in Vienna here and here, however there are some impressions and new finds I couldn’t keep to myself 😉

Summer is the right time to spend your afternoons/evenings at one of the cozy Heurigen (wine taverns) with some cheap local wine and hearty (mostly very meaty) food…

…or taking a walk at one of Vienna’s 11 dedicated hiking trails

Temperature-wise this summer has been more like a roller coaster but that was more than welcome compared to last year’s nonstop oven-like heat. There were still enough days to be enjoyed in and around the water!

Without question the little lake by Seestadt (“lake city” – Vienna’s biggest residential project) has become my favourite find. The lake is super clear and shimmers in different shades of blue and turquoise, yet is very quiet compared to other “beach” areas or public pools. And it’s free!

After a refreshing swim, I’d recommend to have dinner at the nearby restaurant Portobello. They have nice outdoor seating and amazing pizza and pasta dishes to reasonable prices. It really felt like a little vacation 🙂

Late August/early September it was time again for Vienna’s restaurant week – the best chance to try some new spots on the fancier side: We had delicious dinner at Figlmüller Lugeck in the heart of the city!

Since a few months Junn Bar & Kitchen is the new hot spot in town that combines creative cocktails with a selection of different Asian cuisines. Fellow blogger Bea has written about it more in detail here, check it out!

I apologize for the rubbish photo but how often do you get to watch surfers in the middle of the city? Actually you can still do that until 30th September at  3CityWave 😉

I hope you had a summer to remember! Have a good start into autumn (or spring to my friends in the Southern hemisphere) 😀

Didn’t realize there were “beaches’ etc in Vienna…! Love getting to see a different side to the city – I will pop in one of these days…!

We consider pretty much everything a beach when it’s by the water 😉 I hope you do soon!

I had no idea you had places like this in Vienna, but then again, I know nothing about Vienna. Really have to go there someday, looks like a wonderful place in the summer:) So cool with the surfer in that swimming pool. Wonder how they manage to generate a wave big enough to surf?

    • Reply sileas October 6, 2016 at 2:04 pm

I guess it’s time to come then 😉 Must’ve been a gigantic machine to cause those massive waves… The whole event was a big marketing campaign by a phone operator – I wonder if it’s coming back next year?
