Countryside escape: Schwarzenberg and Bregenzerwald

October 19, 2016
Bregenzerwald Schwarzenberg

This time I virtually wanna take you to Schwarzenberg – truly one of the most beautiful villages I’ve ever seen: The traditional architecture consists of perfectly maintained, wooden houses, most of them several hundred years old! It’s located in an area called Bregenzerwald (named after Bregenz, the provincial capital) in Austria’s westernmost province of Vorarlberg. Too bad, I barely get to visit that part of Austria, as for us Viennese it’s considered quite far (even for such a small country)… Anyways, I spent some lovely days with my colleagues there as part of a company trip (which has been my third time already after Potsdam and Leogang) and we enjoyed some wonderful late summer weather!

Bregenzerwald SchwarzenbergWe stayed at Hotel Hirschen Schwarzenberg, a historic mansion with cozy interior and an awarded restaurant. I’m so in love with this country-house style!

The first day was planned for sportive activities. We did quite a serious climb and took the fast way down on a zip-line overlooking the river. Very cool experience btw 😀

The second day was reserved for serious business talks, but at least we were surrounded by those splendid views on top of the Bezau cable car 😉

You could see as far as Lake Constance and neighbouring Switzerland and Germany…

Back in Schwarzenberg I captured some more impressions of the quiet and peaceful scenery that surrounded me – mellow hills that were dipped in golden light while the cows were grazing on them #countrysidelove

Goodbye Schwarzenberg, goodbye Bregenzerwald – I was truly impressed by your beauty!

Do you enjoy the countryside?

oooh so beautiful and rural! So far I’ve always been very happy when I managed to go to Vorarlberg. It seems to be so different from the rest of Austria 😀 I love it there! 🙂

Unbelievable. I don’t know where to start with my compliments – gorgeous countryside (reminds me of ‘The Sound of Music’), love the shutters on the windows in your photos – everything is so wonderful – and photographed so well by you. Was that you on the zip line – you are so brave. Excellent post I just loved it.

    • Reply sileas October 26, 2016 at 8:17 am

Awww thanks Sue! It’s funny you mentioned “The Sound of Music” because the least Austrians have ever seen it… And the zipline looks scarier than it is 😉

  • Reply Julie October 20, 2016 at 7:06 am

Gorgeous! What a truly beautiful place you got to go on a work trip for!! And ziplining down would have been amazing!!

It’s funny because I had never heard of Lake Constance until recently, this other blogger I follow just moved to Lindau because of her husband.

    • Reply sileas October 26, 2016 at 8:24 am

Yeah I’m so glad we went there! I shall take a closer look to the lake next time 😉

Wow, that scenery is breathtaking! I would love to go ziplining through the Alps… maybe one day!

How gorgeous! It reminds me of South Tyrol, a part of Italy I know well – I’m looking forward to exploring Austria, too. I love the Alps, and those idyllic villages and landscapes… (Your photos are always great!)

Thanks so much! I visited South Tyrol many years ago and absolutely loved it… Hopefully I’ll be back one day. I can’t get enough of the beautiful landscapes either 🙂

I love the rural landscape, everything is so lush, green and beautiful! The hotel you stayed at looks so quaint and I love the library of books there. That rooms looks like a cozy place to relax after a long day of exploring 🙂

We we’re so lucky – the weather, the scenery, the hotel – everything was perfect! Thanks for visiting Eden!

I’ve always thought of Austria as a winter destination, but it really looks beautiful in the summer too.

    • Reply sileas November 2, 2016 at 3:24 pm

Strangely summer tourism has caught up in Austria and is even more popular now!

Thanks for the beautiful photos. I really love being in the countryside, way more than in the city. I’ve never been there, but I have been in the countryside around Geneva and the Alps, I guess it’s somewhat similar to the sceneries there. I hope they also eat things like fondue there 😉 lol

    • Reply sileas November 2, 2016 at 3:28 pm

Yeah the scenery is just beautiful anywhere in the alps! And cheese is a big thing there too 😉

      • Reply Sofia November 2, 2016 at 9:28 pm

Yes, very important for us cheesemonsters 😉

Nice that you visited our home area 🙂 We enjoy living here in the countryside very much and feel blessed for all it has to offer. You should definitely visit more areas here since every corner has something different to offer. The place where you stayed is very typicial and worth visiting, maybe next year we´ll try the zip line ourselves 😀

I can absolutely imagine that living in the countryside has a lot of benefits 🙂 I hope to return to Vorarlberg very soon!
