Achensee – Lake. Mountains. Good happens. (+Giveaway)

mountain lake hiking in Austria

[In friendly collaboration with Tranquini and Achensee Tourism]

How do you relax? I’d like to know! I’m happy to announce a giveaway at the end of this post – so please stay tuned 😉 While traveling is my favourite thing to do on the planet, it’s not always very relaxing. But a little getaway in your home country is a different story: There’s no language barrier and the travel time is usually short – perfect preconditions for being positively relaxed, isn’t it? Spring has sparkled my motivation to do more things outdoors and I was looking forward to go hiking in the mountains, to breathe the fresh air, to feel the sunshine in my face… I found my perfect destination that fulfilled all my wishes at Achensee (Lake Achen), the biggest lake of the province of Tyrol. Getting there already was part of the mini-vacation as the historic steam locomotive (Achenseebahn) took me to through fantastic mountain panoramas to my final destination! It looks harmless here but I’m telling you it was quite a ride 😉

Excited to see more of this gorgeous scenery, I followed a narrow path that led me to the spectacular Dalfazer Waterfall. A great companion during all my hikes: A can of refreshing Tranquini – a completely natural, less sweet relaxation drink based on herbs and fruits. I wouldn’t promote it here if I wouldn’t like it 100% 🙂

Yes you saw right, there was snow! Officially last weekend was summer-season opening. And despite the nice and sunny weather, summer has still a far way to go in the mountains. It snowed quite strongly the day before I arrived, so at the top of the Rofanseilbahn I found myself in the middle of winter wonderland! I honestly didn’t expect any of that but I enjoyed it nevertheless!

Of course the hiking trails up there weren’t open yet, but there’s no lack of pretty trails near the lake. The walk from Pertisau to Gaisalm shouldn’t be missed and definitely was a highlight of the trip!

For a moment I forgot that I was by a alpine lake because the crystal-clear water reminded me of the Mediterranean… Just the snow-capped mountains and the fact that the water was only 6°C cold took me back to reality! More waterfalls, forest, desert-like boulder screes – this place has everything!

And don’t forget: Relax. Be positive. Good happens.

Whether you’re not so ambitious with hiking or running out of time – there’s always the option to hop on a boat! That’s not only convenient but also gives you some different views to the shores. The Achensee boats serve several stops across the lake and run frequently (especially during summer).

Mountains and lakes – an irresistible combination and ingredients for an unforgettable weekend trip ❤️

Was this last weekend? I was in Switzerland, and it snowed on Thursday but was quite sunny and warm on Saturday and Sunday! This spring has been downright bizarre.

Yes, that was last weekend. Crazy right? I do like snow but I think I’m done with it for the year 😛

As always I enjoy your photos and words in your blog. My favorite way to relax is to explore the many streets and walkways in Wien. I always find my way to Stadtpark to listen to music, drink coffee, and watch people there. It is a place I go where creative ideas come for my blog. I return to Wien next week and can hardly wait!

Thanks so much Barry! You’re right, Vienna has some wonderful relaxing places. Enjoy your time!

What an incredibly beautiful place. Those snow capped mountains are just stunning as is the blue of the lake.

Thanks Sue, I’m glad I could witness such an amazing scenery!

I’m counting days to get back to Europe and relax while gardening!
Your pics are amazing. Lake Achen surely is a mix of Mediterranean and Alpine!

    Happy Positively Relaxed-Day Julia 🙂

The water really looks like the Mediterranean Sea. There’s even a beach on the side? Curious about the Tranquini drinks, I hope I win:):)

    • Reply sileas May 27, 2017 at 9:43 am

Yeah only the temperature wasn’t quite Meditrranean… I’m sorry you didn’t win this time but I’ll bring you a sample 😉

      • Reply Sanne July 11, 2017 at 8:01 pm

I forgot to tell you about the Tranquini. Really liked it a lot! I had both of them after going to the gym, and they were so refreshing. Like a soda for adult. I could imagine they would be great with vodka too, even though that’s probably not the intention:)
