Best of travel 2017 via Instagram

December 29, 2017

It’s this time of the year again – somewhat floating around between Christmas and New Year where most of us recap the past year and make resolutions for the one ahead. To me, 2017 was a little strange as I left my office job and spent most of the year moving back and forth between NYC and Vienna, waiting for my US visa, doing occasional jobs – it felt like I’ve been living two separate lives. I wasn’t able to plan anything ahead and I can’t wait to bring some consistency back into my life! And so far, I hope I’ll be able to do so in 2018. However this is a travel blog and I won’t bore you with more personal blah blah and head straight to my personal travel highlights of the year πŸ˜€

Thinking back of my first trip of 2017 to Tunis, Tunisia (where I spent previous NYE), I realize how crazy fast this year went by again. I mean it feels like it’s been yesterday we sipped tea with this gorgeous view from Sidi Bou Said.

Back in Austria we faced one of the coldest winters since years. It was so cold that Lake Neusiedl completely froze and literally offered a cool ground to walk on πŸ™‚

Only a short drive away from my home city Vienna lies Brno, a real hidden jewel with great architecture, culture and food!

March took us back to Asia where we spent a couple of days in Hanoi. And what’s the best thing to do in Hanoi? Trying all the different pho spots of course πŸ˜‰

What an incomplete year it would’ve been without my beloved Thailand. The country never runs out of amazing places to discover like the jungles of Si Phang Nga and the paradise beaches of Koh Surin.

A layover in Dubai gave me the chance to get a glimpse of the city from the highest building in the world and finally meet my fellow blogger mitziemee in person!

Charming Zagreb and the surreal beauty of the Plitvice Lakes National Park where the perfect ingredients for a girl’s weekend trip with my friend Marion from marestella.me

In the transition from winter to spring I found this amazing scene by Lake Achen in the Tyrolean alps 😍

However this year certainly is dedicated to the US of A. After spending a good amount of time in NYC…

… the summer was made for road trips: From New York state’s jewels of Ithaca and Watkins Glen to the breathtaking Niagara Falls – I was filled with wonder!

Not bad #understatement

And our road trip through the Northwest and hitting breathtaking Yellowstone and Glacier National Park was one of the best travel moments ever! Not to mention all the other stops in-between!

We were greeted by sunshine in the great cities of the PNW likeΒ Seattle and Vancouver despite their reputation for being some of the rainiest cities in the world! Could we ask for more? πŸ˜‰

By the end of summer I was back in Austria and I spent some much-needed time with my family and me-time that lead me to Salzburg and Graz – two places I’m very rooted with.

And suddenly it was November and I got another year older. All I wanted for my birthday and the holiday season was spending it with my fiance. So here I am NYC!

Last but not least, I just returned from a trip to Mexico. This country completely blew me away and I couldn’t imagine a better to place to escape the cold weather for a week ❀️

I’m so grateful to have seen so many wonderful places this year! At the end, I also want to thank you for reading, commenting and following along. It’s not always been easy to keep this blog running but your support is extremely helpful! I’m wishing you a very Happy New Year and safe travels ❀️
