The first weekend of July has been the hottest so far, and the best way to survive the heat was cooling off in some crystal clear lakes with a pleasant temperature of 20 °C. Anyway, Vienna was unbearable and I felt lucky that I could join my friends on that trip, especially because I like the Salzkammergut so much. That part of Austria never gets boring and the scenery always enchants me every time I get there. There’s Gmunden with its beautiful castle (well known from an Austrian TV series), the old spa town of Bad Ischl with an imperial history and – most importantly – lots of lakes, from small to big, from turquoise to dark blue. A great insider’s tip are the two Langbathseen, which are only connected through a narrow road. The first lake is perfect for a refreshing swim, whereas the second you have to walk to another 40 minutes, but you’ll get rewarded by spectacular mountain views. We enjoyed pretty good views from the farm house, we stayed in, too.
I revisited the cute town of Hallstatt and finally made it to the interesting charnel house, which I missed last time. But soon it got so hot again, we couldn’t wait to get back into the water! Please, also check out my post of Hallstatt and St. Wolfgang🙂
